  • Dedicated to producing, acquiring, marketing and distributing films which inspire, uplift, and entertain audiences for over a decade. Sony Pictures launched AFFIRM Films in 2007 to meet the increasing demands from audiences looking for quality, mainstream films that reflect their spiritual beliefs and values. AFFIRM Films acquires films in various stages of development and production (from script to finished film) and is uniquely positioned for optimizing distribution through SPE divisions. AFFIRM Films acquires faith-based and inspirational content across a wide range of genres and budgets for the various global distribution platforms at SPE including theatrical, television, and home entertainment.

History of AFFIRM Films

In 2006, Sony released its first faith-based theatrical film “Facing the Giants”, the Kendrick Brothers’ drama grossed over $10 million domestic box office. In 2008, AFFIRM Films co-produced, marketed and distributed the Kendrick Brothers’ next film “Fireproof”, which grossed over $33 million in box office worldwide, confirming that the need for faith forward films were in high demand.

In 2011 AFFIRM Films had a very busy year releasing “Soul Surfer”, “Grace Card” and “Courageous”, bringing in over $80M Domestic Box office between the three films. In addition to these theatrical hits AFFIRM released the international hit film. 2014 brought several new films to theaters from AFFIRM Films; the comedy “Moms’ Night Out” from the Erwin Brothers, the sports drama “When the Game Stands Tall” inspired by the story about the De La Salle Spartans and the apocalyptic thriller “The Remaining.”

AFFIRM was the faith-based marketing partner for the Columbia Pictures’ films “Heaven Is For Real” and “Miracles From Heaven,” both which are on the list of top 5 grossing faith-based films at #2 and #5 respectively. The AFFIRM label continues to share inspirational and powerful messages with films like “War Room,” which hit #1 on the domestic box office chart which went on to gross $73M worldwide and “Risen” starring Joseph Fiennes. AFFIRM Films also released “All Saints” in August 2017 and the animated film, “The Star,” in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures, in November 2017. “Paul, Apostle of Christ” starring Jim Caviezel opened in theaters in 2018 and on August 23, 2019 the highly anticipated Kendrick Brothers’ film “Overcomer” was released in theaters nationwide earning a rare “A+” CinemaScore awarded by moviegoers. In 2019 AFFIRM Films also partnered with TriStar Pictures to release “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood” starring Tom Hanks. AFFIRM Films released a unique and epic Christmas musical, JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM in December 2023. August 2024, AFFIRM Films released the much-anticipated Kendrick Brothers’ film, THE FORGE. A powerful and faith-filled new movie with familiar friends and inspiring new twists – now available to buy, rent and in theaters.

The studio has now released 5 of the top 10 faith-based domestic openings of all time and is currently the most profitable faith-based studio, delivering over $585 million in worldwide box office. Internationally, AFFIRM Films releases titles theatrically in dozens of territories around the world.

In late 2019 AFFIRM Films partnered with Sony Pictures Television to launch AFFIRM Television which currently has various projects in development. AFFIRM Television’s focus is family, faith, inspirational and aspirational television series content.
